Production with the BOROMAT Automatic Turret Drilling Head is more efficient, because several operations can be performed on the workpiece with one set-up on a single spindle. When the spindle is raised after completing an operation, the next tool is automatically indexed around to the working position. Thus, the idle times are even shorter than on a gang drill and the operator’s task is easier.
The BOROMAT Automatic Turret Drilling Head is available in three sizes, each unit with (6) tool stations. In designing this drilling head, particular attention was paid to its robust construction, length of life and high precision.
The drilling spindles are interchangeable and fitted with precision ball bearings for smooth running without any play. The bores of the turret plate, which receive the spindle inserts, are lined with steel bushings. Only the tool at the working position rotates, thereby giving longer life and increased safety. Centering takes place by means of a strong centering plunger and an indexing ring. The tools are indexed around automatically when the machine spindle is raised as far as the stop. They can also be indexed around by hand. Indexing can take place with the machine spindle running or stationary.
No extra power is required for the BOROMAT, although the drilling capacity of the machine must be sufficient for the largest tool to be chucked. The spindle at the working position is coupled to the machine spindle and driven by way of the driving sleeve. The locking device provides for a positive drive and prevents accidental disengagement even at higher speeds. The transmission ratio is 1 to 1.
THE BOROMAT B8 IS PROVIDED WITH THE FOLLOWING:
(5) spindles on the turret equipped with 3-jaw drill chucks that
have a maximum speed rating of 3,000 RPM and a capacity of 1/16
(1) spindle on the turret equipped with a tapping attachment for
tapping threads that has a capacity of 1/8 to 5/16. The
threads can be cut in both blind and through holes with machine
taps. Thus, no prior use of a taper tap is required. The tapping
attachment is provided with a built-in speed reduction and
reversing gear unit. When tapping, the speed is reduced by a ratio
of 3.28 to 1. When the spindle is raised, the attachment
automatically reverses the tap to the quick-return speed by a ratio
A turret depth stop fitted with (6) stop screws. The stop screws are set up to the desired depth for each spindle. The stop turret is indexed around in unison with the spindles. The drilling machine should be provided with a suitable fixed stop.
If available, a custom adapter and appropriate arbor or driver for the BOROMAT will be supplied ready for mounting on a specific machine at no additional cost. In the case of machines with a Morse taper socket, a driver with a taper end is inserted in the socket of the machine spindle. When the machine spindle ends in a Jacobs taper arbor, the driver socket is placed on this arbor. The adapter of the drilling head is then placed over the quill of the machine and is clamped or bolted in position. In order for us to supply you with the appropriate arbor or driver for your spindle and a custom adapter to fit your spindle housing, you will need to contact us so that we can fax you a dimensional data sheet.
